Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH) works using Brain Mapping (derived from neuroscience) to create an understanding of the science behind our thoughts, emotions and behaviours, along with deep relaxation and hypnotherapeutic techniques, to access our inner resourcefulness to make changes that you may not have thought possible.

Neuroscience has shown that many of the problems that we experience today are related to the structure of the brain and how evolution has shaped the way the brain works. Humans have an incredible intellectual brain that allows us to think clearly, problem solve and to assess situations accurately. It allows us to have a sense of self and identity. It enables you to work a computer and read this. No other species can do this! Our intellectual mind enables us to imagine, to conceptualize, to plan and to predict.

While it usually allows us to do this to enable us to succeed, these same abilities can work against us. We may develop negative beliefs about ourselves and our futures. These cause us stress and anxiety and can stop us from being effective. We share a primitive aspect of our brain with other creatures. This evolved to help us to survive in threatening circumstances - to hunt or to avoid hunters. It is often called the flight/fight/depression centre of the brain.

Our primitive brain has yet to catch up to modern living. It tends to see problems as being a worst case scenario and demands an immediate "fix" - to run away, fight or hide away. The fear/flight/depression response needed to deal with predators or other threat is not likely to help with more complex and long-term problems. In fact, it may make things worse as anxiety and strong emotions can override the intellectual mind and stopping us from being able to think effectively.

We may panic, erupt in anger or withdraw. Great if there is a predator to deal with but not so adaptive to modern day living. This can lead to sense of loss of control and negative thinking which further activates the flight/fight/depression (primitive) brain - fueling unhelpful beliefs about ourselves and our futures.

How Hypnotherapy helps

Hypnotherapy is an amazing way of enabling the intellectual and primitive parts of the brain to start to work together and respond positively and productively to life's challenges! It works to allow you to be able to stay calm and able to think clearly.

The aim of SFH is to work together to identify solutions by enabling you to access the amazing resource of the subconscious mind. SFH helps to reprogram the primitive mind and enables you to fully access your intellectual mind. SFH enables you to identify your strengths and apply these to making changes.

The initial consultation

During the initial consultation, we make sure that we feel comfortable with working with each. We will discuss what your goals and agree a plan - including the likely number of sessions required. I will talk you through how the process of how hypnotherapy works. Hypnotherapy for smoking usually only requires one 2 hour session. For other needs, trance-work commences at our second meeting.

Treatments

During the treatment sessions, we work together to enable you to gain an understanding of the factors that work to drive and perpetuate your difficulties. You will then be guided into a trance to allow you to access your subconscious. You remain aware of and in control of the process throughout. Hypnotherapy works to increase your awareness. Contrary to popular belief, you cannot be made to do anything that you do not wish and can only work to increase your self-efficacy. Working to help you to improve your thought processes and to improve restorative rest and sleep SFH will allow you to make changes and cope much more effectively with life's challenges.
