We may avoid situations and opportunities in which we fear failure or exposure. This in turn leads us to think even more negatively about ourselves.
There are many reasons why we may lack confidence. Perhaps messages about ourself that we picked up while we were growing up. Perhaps by unconsciously picking up the attitudes and beliefs of our parents. Perhaps we compared ourselves negatively to others or were compared negatively.
